Characteristics of the Sangaredi bauxite deposit, Boke region, Republic of Guinea
Sangaredi is a mining town in the Boke region of the Republic of Guinea, where bauxite deposits have been conrmed.e Sangaredi bauxite deposit is located at 1106'00''N and 1346'00''W in the Eastern Boke region, covers an area of about 10 km 2 and was formed as a result of deep alteration of sedimentary and igneous rocks.e purpose of the study is a geological assessment of the bauxite potential of the Sangaredi deposit in the Boke region based on a study of the geological situation of the area, petrographic and geochemical characteristics of ore samples. Methods of research.Geological studies of the Sangaredi deposit were carried out using X-ray di ractometry (XRD) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) techniques.Results.Geological analyzes show that gibbsite and boehmite are the dominant minerals in all bauxites with average concentration (91.85% and 3.3%, respectively), while goethite is the main ferruginous mineral with average concentration (1.35%) and hematite averages (0.7%).Diaspore elements, dawsonite, rutile and anatase are found in low abundance (< 1%).Analyzes of bauxite samples show signi cant di erences in the content of Al 2 O 3 (56%-70.92%),Fe 2 O 3 (1.47-8.92%),SiO 2 (0.40-5.50%) and TiO 2 (2.60-5.72%),which are independent of their parent rocks.e Sangaredi bauxites have a very similar chemical composition, high in aluminum but low in silicon and iron, distinguishing them from other deposits in Guinea and many other parts of the world.
