Fiber Optic Wells Cement Quality Review in PDO: PDO learning Curve in Cementing Fiber Optic Wells

Abstract Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has been utilizing fiber optic technology as one of the surveillance methods in several Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods in the Sultanate of Oman to accelerate and increase recovery from fields with challenging rock and fluid properties. Cement Quality in fiber optic wells becomes a concern area in the past few years which hinders the installation process that impact the maturation of EOR projects and full-field scale deployment in many oil and gas fields in Oman. The intension of this paper is to show PDO journey with cement quality and the progress of the improvements over times as part of this continuing effort, a currently ongoing installation and cement mapping shows that cement mapping tools play a vital role in assessing the quality of cement jobs and detecting any potential leak paths to the surface. These tools use various techniques to evaluate the cement bond between the casing and the formation, such as acoustic, electromagnetic, and ultrasonic measurements. This paper meant to show how the Ultrasonic imaging tools provide high-resolution images of the cement sheath surrounding the casing. These images allow engineers to visually inspect the integrity of the cement and detect any channels or voids that could potentially lead to leaks. The intension of this work is to show the cement quality journey of fiber optic well and the improvements done over time to ensure proper cementation jobs. Moreover, another objective is to how the cement quality was assessed before and after perforation jobs which ensure that cement integrity was not jeopardize after the perforation job. The focus of this paper is to show the build learning curve by mainly showing the techniques used and monitoring over time of those wells after adding wells into stream. The data was used for several key decisions; to map the fiber optic cables and show any out-of-Zone Injection, matrix versus fracture injection, and to prove conformance. The most valuable information inferred from the cement quality of FO data allowed confirmation of the cement quality improvement overtime, any quality issues, and the efficiency of perforation jobs.
