Development of a Mobile Application That Generates Customized Routes, Supports and Monitors Exercise

Walking route generation and physical activity tracking mobile applications often fail to adequately consider users' individual goals. The aim of this research was to develop a mobile application that generates personalized exercise routes for users, considering individual needs such as exercise duration, intensity, desired calorie burns, and the incorporation of Points of interest into the route. User-centric personalized routes promote personal motivation and a sense of satisfaction with using the application. The system tracks the user along the generated routes, allowing them to monitor their progress. The application also provides the opportunity for users to connect with each other. To address the multifaceted route generation considerations, the problem was modeled as an optimization task. For each route generation consideration, a metric function was assigned, which was minimized during the optimization process. An evolutionary algorithm was used to generate circular routes, while a random enumeration method was used to generate challenging routes. During testing, the application successfully generated routes that met the target parameters. Route difficulty scaling worked well and adjusted the difficulty of the generated routes to the user's fitness level, ensuring that users remained within a healthy heart rate range during exercise. Thus, the application unlocks users' fitness potential, guiding them towards achieving their desired fitness levels, including improving endurance and reaching weight loss milestones.
