Code-Mixing and Code-Switching in the TV Culinary Show MasterChef Indonesia
This study has explored the phenomenon of Indonesian language use in the culinary world within the public television space, with a focus on code-mixing and code-switching. This research contributes to an understanding of how Indonesian language usage is evolving in culinary television programs and examines its potential impacts on the preservation and development of Indonesian as a national language. A problem-solving approach, based on Gumperz's and Poplack's theories of code-mixing and code-switching, was utilized to analyze language use within Indonesian culinary television programs. The data comprised sentences featuring code-mixing and code-switching instances, extracted from culinary television program videos. This study analyzed the forms of code-mixing and code-switching present within Indonesian culinary television and identified factors influencing their usage. Moreover, it assessed how shifts in Indonesian language use through code-mixing and code-switching may impact the preservation and development of Indonesian as a national language in the public television context.
