Clinical Course of COVID 19 Maternal Death in a Teritiary Care Centre in Kerala

This study investigates the effects of COVID - 19 on maternal mortality by analyzing the clinical outcomes of COVID - positive pregnant women in a tertiary care facility. A retrospective review identified nine maternal deaths among 755 COVID - positive antenatal cases, resulting in a prevalence of 1.19%. All cases occurred in the third trimester and predominantly presented with moderate to severe respiratory symptoms, including dyspnea and tachypnea. Each patient required ICU care and ventilator support, and none had received the COVID - 19 vaccine. The findings highlight the heightened risk of severe COVID - 19 complications in pregnant women, particularly in the later stages of pregnancy, indicating a need for improved clinical protocols and prompt interventions to enhance maternal care during the pandemic.
