A Tunable Ultra-Broadband Energy Selective Surface Design
In this article, a novel energy selective surface (ESS) with tunable and ultra-wideband properties is proposed and simulated. With well-designed grid and cross patterns as well as properly chosen PIN diodes and varactor diodes, the ESS can achieve both high-power microwave (HPM) protection and change the operating band of the ESS by applying different bias voltages under low incident power levels. The simulations indicate that the center frequency of the tunable ESS with less than 3dB insertion loss (IL) can be flexible in 8.31GHz- 14.83GHz, and the relative bandwidth under different operating states is 24.5% - 31.6%. The shielding effectiveness (SE) to HPM exceeds 19.1 dB for all operating states.
