Analysis of the Reducing Effect of Metamaterial on Multipath Interference of Large Obstacles to Localizer
With the rapid development of airport economic zones, there are more and more large obstacles around the airport, which have led to the degradation or even cessation of navigation equipment in multiple airports. Especially for large airports with instrument landing system(ILS) operating category II and III, the impact is greater. To alleviate the contradiction between airport construction needs and electromagnetic environment protection of navigation stations, installing metamaterials on the surface of large obstacles to reduce their multipath interference on navigation stations and achieve stealth of large obstacles has become a new solution. This article conducts simulation and actual testing on the impact of large obstacles on the signal of localizer(LOC) in two scenarios, without installing metamaterials on the surface of obstacles and installing metamaterials.
