Characterization of Cryopreserved and Lyophilized Amniotic Membrane Allograft

The amniotic membrane is a tissue that has a series of characteristics and mechanisms of action, evidenced by its clinical effects and through studies on structural and biochemical composition, that turns it a tool useful for the treatment of pathologies and in tissue engineering. The Laboratorio de Hemoderivados (UNC) produces allografts from cryopreserved human amniotic membranes (MAHC) and lyophilized and irradiated ones (MAHLI) with a good profile of biocompatibility. The aim of this work was to characterize the composition and cellular viability of allografts preserved by two different methods. The results showed that both conservation methods allowed obtain allografts with high collagen content within the total protein content, collagenase resistant and with the absence of viable cells.
