Upgraded Design of a 0.5-MW High-Power W-Band Magnetron with Axial Output Structure
We have upgraded our design of a high-power W-band rising-sun magnetron for applications in the heating and current drive (HCD) system in the nuclear fusion industry. A novel output structure has been optimised to provide a smooth transition between the anode cavity and a circular waveguide to extract power more efficiently. In the particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation, secondary electron emission (SEE) from the cathode is demonstrated to significantly enhance the current to enable strong beam-wave interaction. The PIC simulation results show that the magnetron could generate a high output power of 573 kW at 94 GHz, with promising applications in the fusion HCD system.
