Voltage Control in Low Voltage Distribution Systems Using Smart Power Converter

Voltage stability is crucial for a reliable power supply, and smart converters offer effective solutions. They use advanced control algorithms for real-time adjustments based on grid conditions. Remote monitoring and control capabilities allow operators to manage grid data, responding promptly to voltage fluctuations. This work presents an optimal voltage control method which is implemented using smart power converter. The optimization method is solved using exhaustive search method. The results are obtained for a case study considering the worst-case scenario of 100% penetration of photovoltaic (PV) power without load demand in CIGRE low voltage residential distribution network. The Performance indicators include the voltage rise margin, voltage drop margin, and total load bus voltage deviation are calculated to show the effectiveness of optimal control method when compared to based case.
