Broadband Terahertz Radar with Photonics-enabled mm-Scale Resolution

We present a photonics-based bandwidth doubling technology for generating broadband terahertz (THz) radar signals. Our proposed approach addresses the challenges of high sampling rates and system instability in THz radar applications. In the experiment, we achieve a record range resolution of 2.5 mm and demonstrate over 95% accuracy in recognizing gestures through obstructions.

Abstract

We present a photonics-based bandwidth doubling technology for generating broadband terahertz (THz) radar signals. Our proposed approach addresses the challenges of high sampling rates and system instability in THz radar applications. In the experiment, we achieve a record range resolution of 2.5 mm and demonstrate over 95% accuracy in recognizing gestures through obstructions.
