Development of a measurement system for estimation of local peripheral arterial stiffness parameters
The study aimed to develop a system to measure local peripheral arterial stiffness parameters to improve prognoses and mitigate the risk for chronic kidney disease patients. The developed system consists of a calibrated occlusive cuff and a Finometer device for measuring finger arterial volume changes and beat-to-beat blood pressure, respectively. The system was tested on three subjects by inducing arterial volume and compliance changes through contralateral arm cooling and warming. The measurements were carried out at different applied cuff pressures, and the maximal compliance and finger arterial volume were detected from the calculated pressure-compliance and pressure-volume curves. Results showed that the system can be used to measure arterial compliance and volume changes, comparable to previous studies. Future studies are needed to improve the accuracy of the system.
