A CPW Based Elliptical Patch Antenna for Biomedical Applications
The paper presents CB-CPW planar elliptical shape CST- MWS for both conditions, case I when the antenna is placed in free space and case II, when it is placed on human body phantom (HUGO human body model of VOXEL family) in CST-MWS for SAR analysis. The volume of the simulated CB-CPW patch antenna is 40mm×40mm×1mm. The antenna exhibits the broad side gain of 3.45 dBi in free space at operating frequency of 2.56 GHz. The designed antenna is of elliptical shape with a circular patch at the center. The radius of the central patch is selected in antenna for medical body area network (MBAN) applications. The proposed antenna is resonating frequency at 2.56 GHz of 220 MHz bandwidth. The implemented MBAN antenna design is simulated in such a way that the operating frequency lie within the desired frequency range. The designed elliptical shaped antenna is simulated using the CST MWS 19 software. The radiation efficiency of intended elliptical shaped patch antenna is 88% in free space. According to FCC of United States, the SAR value must fall in range (1.6W/Kg) for the biomedical applications. Thus, SAR is a significant parameter for designing of the biomedical antenna. The simulated SAR value (analysis using HUGO model from VOXEL family in CST) of the designed antenna is within range of safety guide lines issued by the regulatory authorities (FCC & IEEE).
