Development of a miniaturized wireless arbitrary waveform constant current transcutaneous nerve stimulator for wearable diagnostic tests

Transcutaneous nerve stimulators have numerous applications in both therapeutic and diagnostic medicine. Miniaturization of these devices can widen the range of applications and facilitate integration with different sensors, especially for wearable stimulation or when portability of equipment is desired. Several solutions exist for waveform control, power supply, and safety features. In this work, a prototype was designed with a main emphasis on size and compatibility with a popular low-cost system-on-a-chip (ESP32). We present ongoing development of a miniaturized transcutaneous stimulator with the following current features: constant current stimulation, 175 V voltage range, 40 mA current range, arbitrary waveform, current sensing, opamp enable/disable, reed relay output disconnection, and wireless operation.
