Exploring the Predictors of Intention to Purchase Electric Vehicles
Electric Vehicles have several advantages over traditional vehicles, but there are many psychological and technical barriers leading to a slower-than-expected rate of their adoption by consumers. This study attempts to identify the predictors of consumer’s intention to purchase electric vehicles. Analysis reveals that the awareness of consequences affects the consumers' green self-identity and ascription of responsibility. The ascription of responsibility impacts the green self-identity, and green self-identity, product knowledge, and driving range directly influence the consumers' intention to purchase EVs. Overall, there are three categories of factors influencing the purchase intention of consumers-environmental factors, product-related factors, and individual factors. The findings reinforce that the consumer perception of their ability to adopt EVs will act as a catalyst to transform green self-identity into EV purchase intentions.
