MAS for Autonomous Vehicle Coordination in Engineering

The combination of multi-agent systems (MAS) into autonomous vehicle coordination offers a promising means for increasing the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of transportation systems. The purpose of this article is to explore an area of MAS application, namely autonomous vehicle coordination, within the domain of mechanical engineering. Using MAS, autonomous vehicles demonstrate cooperative mechanisms, allowing them to go through difficult roads while observing safety rules and improving traffic flow. The research commences with a discussion of the current literature on autonomous vehicles and MAS, drawing attention to their tight cooperation. We suggest a MAS structure constructed specifically for the specific challenges of vehicle coordination, which subsumes the agent architecture, communication protocols, decision-making algorithms, and coordination strategies. Using real-time data from case studies and simulated experiments, we analyse how MAS framework performs in a heterogeneous environment such as urban traffic control and highway merging. For instance, travel time, congestion reduction, and energy efficiency are the metrics used to evaluate the proposed approach. Issues like scaling up, real-time decision-making, and the inclusion of transportation systems in place are considered, along with possible suggestions for future research. The implications of our research indicate the integrity of MAS in the field of autonomous vehicle coordination engineering at the level of designing, implementing, and optimizing intelligent transportation systems. This research is still an important part of the ongoing conversation on autonomous vehicle technology, and it is still significant in order to help engineers, policymakers, and researchers uncover the potential of MAS for enhancing the safety and efficiency of future transportation networks.
