Design and Implementation of a Novel High-Gain Impedance Network Integrated Sparse Matrix Converter to Enhance the Performance of WECs
This research paper introduces a cutting-edge integration of a Z-source high-gain impedance network with a Sparse Matrix Converter (SMC) for Wind Energy Conversion systems (WECs). This innovative impedance network, when combined with the SMC, substantially increases voltage gain in WECS, particularly advantageous under low wind speed conditions. This integration significantly boosts converter efficiency to 96-98%, across various wind speed ranges eliminating the need for storage components and enhancing overall performance. The proposed topology achieves a remarkable voltage gain of 1.38, surpassing other AC-AC converter-integrated impedance topologies within the DC link of the converter. Unlike other topologies that position the impedance network on the source side of the three-phase converter, this configuration optimizes component usage by integrating the impedance network within the SMC’s DC link. Utilizing a specialized Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) technique with Zero DC Link Current Commutation (ZDLCC), the system reduces switching losses and dramatically improves efficiency. Furthermore, the dual modified Voltage-Oriented Control (VOC) technique ensures effective power extraction and optimal power distribution throughout the system. The theoretical framework is rigorously validated through MATLAB/Simulink simulations and experimental verification in real-world scenarios.
