Investigating Transient and Steady State Stability of IEEE-9 Bus System for Integrating Renewable Energy Using Real-Time Digital Simulator

With the modernization and advancement in technology, the magnitude of power required is enhanced exponentially. This escalated power requirement introduces transients in the system which must be controlled for a stable power system operation. This paper explores the change in the magnitude of power flow during and after the implementation of renewable sources of energy which plays a critical role in the stability enhancement of power systems during transient and steady-state conditions. The method proposed is validated on the IEEE 9 bus system for analyzing the effect of renewable integration and load variation on system transient and steady-state stability and deterioration of the voltage profile of the system. This paper also explores the effect of integrated wind generators and solar generation on the improvement of the voltage and frequency profile of the test system during variable loading. In this research, a Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) with a Phasor Measurement Unit (PMUs) is employed to display the voltage and frequency profiles of the network. To validate the results obtained from the proposed method suitable comparison with ieee-9 bus data is performed and discussed.
