Designing of an Active PFC Converter using Boost Topology and Power Train Model for Electric Vehicle
With the increase in the population of a country, the number of vehicles is also increasing, which hence increasing the pollution day-by-day, which is a major concern. To minimize the pollution caused by the vehicles, automobile industries started manufacturing non-carbon emissive vehicles which does not use conventional fuel to run, instead rely on other energy sources like solar or wind to store the energy in the batteries and use that energy to run. In this process, the two major aspects to be taken care are of designing the best-suited converters for charging the batteries and running the motor and other auxiliary components in the most efficient manner with the least possible losses, and secondly to ensure proper integration of all the systems of a vehicle like battery management system, power converters, braking system, traction system (motors), etc., to ensure smooth running of the vehicle. This paper describes the best-suited power converter configuration for an electric vehicle, including the power factor correction technique, which is also a major issue, and describes an efficient way of integrating the various EV systems considering all possible factors that affect the integration process.
