IoT-based Transportation System: An Enabler for the Sustainable Environment
To aim for sustainability on their operations is a strategic requirement for organizations who are looking to prosper in a complex and interconnected global economy. This is because societies are now increasingly acknowledging the pressing need to address environmental degradation, resource scarcity, and social inequity. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a revolutionary tool which is capable of enabling any organization's operations towards achieving sustainability. For any business organization, transportation is one of the biggest sources of environmental degradation. By IoT technology integration throughout the transportation fleet, organizations can gain unprecedented visibility, control, and optimization capabilities. This results in enhance efficiency, reduced waste, and mitigation of environmental degradation. The present study aims to investigate the ways in which IoT facilitates a sustainable supply chain with reference to transportation. The study provides a thorough understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating IoT into transportation. By looking at the important areas where IoT technology intersects with sustainability, such as supplier sustainability assessment, energy efficiency, tracking and traceability, and circular economy initiatives, this study will provide enterprises and stakeholders with the knowledge and resources needed to fully utilize IoT technology in achieving sustainable supply chain management goals with respect to transportation. In the end, organizations may improve their operational resilience and competitive edge by using IoT as a sustainability enabler.
