Chip Design using OpenROAD
This paper reports layout design of an 8-bit Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) using OpenROAD platform followed by optimization of the design in terms of design area, power consumption, leakage power and place density. A System on Chip (SoC) is a device that integrates most or all components of an electronic system which include processing unit, memory, input/output devices alongside other components, on a single substrate. An Arithmetic logic unit is a fundamental building block of a microprocessor, which performs arithmetic and logic operations on the operands in computer instruction words. After detailed study of the working of OpenROAD flow scripts, a sample Arithmetic Logic Unit was designed. OpenROAD-flow-scripts were used to obtain the Graphic Data System (GDS) level design from the Register Transfer Level (RTL) level design and the final layout was obtained in the OpenROAD graphical user interface.
