Synchronous switches based piezoelectric shunting circuits and piezoelectric energy control

Piezoelectric shunt damping technology effectively suppresses mechanical structural noise and vibration by connecting piezoelectric elements integrated on the structure to specific interface circuits, among which synchronized switch damping (SSD) draws attention. This paper presents a detailed analysis of the operating principles and characteristics of SSD circuits, electromechanical conversion energy and vibration attenuation expressions of each are normalized. By comparing their parameters and performances, it is found that SSDEI circuits can make up for the defects of SSDI and SSDV technologies in which the vibration control effect is limited by the Qe of the circuits and the km2Qm of the electromechanical structure by injecting energy, and their performance is significantly improved. When the value of km2Qm is high, it takes a little external energy to completely suppress the structural vibration. Therefore, in the future, it is possible to have a completely self-sufficient control system that has no need for an external power supply.
