IMPLEMENTATION OF THE «FROM FARM TO FORK» STRATEGY IN RADIOACTIVELY CONTAMINATED AREAS

The "From Farm to Fork" strategy is a key component of the European Green Deal, aimed at creating sustainable food systems that promote both human health and environmental conservation. The main idea is to transition to environmentally friendly agriculture, reduce the use of chemicals, preserve biodiversity, and protect natural resources. However, the challenges become much more severe in radioactively contaminated areas, such as the zones around Chernobyl or Fukushima, where radioactive contamination significantly impacts food safety and human health. Radioactive contamination greatly affects soils, water, and air, which in turn poses serious risks to food chains. The primary radionuclides that contaminate areas after nuclear accidents, such as 137Cs, 90Sr, and 239Pu, have long half-lives and can accumulate in plants and animals. Eventually, these substances enter the human body through food consumption.
