Versatile Multi Scale Characterization Techniques for Fault Reactivation and its Impact on Reservoir Management
This study focuses on micro and macro scale characterization of the structural deformation from well data and integration with seismic and geomechanically observations (Sensu Tamura et al., 2004, Krawczyk et al., 2007 and Lohr et al., 2008). The calibration of the various datasets and the integration of results with information from previous studies allowed a full description of the fracture networks, of their densities within and outside the potential fault corridors of the giant carbonate X Field in middle east, an assessment of their potential for reactivation and their possible impact on localized formation compaction. The well database that was made available for this study consists of Borehole Image (BHI), relevant cores through the Limestone Reservoir-1 and Limestone Reservoir-2, full 3D CT scans of parts of the cores and conventional logs in all four study penetrations. In addition, 3D seismic data and relevant horizons and fault polygons across the X-Field covering the area of interest has been provided for integration of the well results. Various drilling and study data and reports, including a synthesis field-scale geomechanical and structural study also formed part of the study dataset.
