Enhancing Operational Efficiency by Optimizing Gas Oil Separation Plants Operation Mode
Abstract This paper presents the dynamic selection of plant operational modes based on the results of Process Simulation Software Application. This Solution takes multivariable inputs for all the process feed parameters, dynamically determines the optimum operating conditions and advice the control room operator about oil producers well selections for specific trains and manifolds based on the water handling capabilities of trains. This also provides decision output for the selection of operating mode of the processing trains between dry and wet modes. Gas Oil Separation Plants (GOSP) play a pivotal role in the oil and gas industry by optimizing operational efficiency through dynamic operational modes. These plants are designed to manage the separation of gas and water from oil, ensuring that the crude oil meets export specifications while minimizing energy consumption and carbon emissions. GOSP plants have inherent challenges of scattered oil producer wells. Production from the wells is comingled with oil gathering manifold and transfer lines to the central station, where it is further processed and separated into stabilized crude and associated gas and water. The implementation of dynamic selection has resulted in a significant benefit for the plant operations. By segregating the high water cut and low water cut wells, the model has reduced the load on the water treatment facilities. The model has enabled the plant to operate more efficiently and reliably, while saving energy and minimizing carbon emissions. The model has also enhanced the operator awareness and decision-making capabilities, as well as the safety and environmental performance of the plant. This methodology adopted were based on the following steps: Collecting data from all oil-producing wells.Separating the wells with a high water cut, identifying those with over 15% water content.Allocating wells with a high water cut to the wet trains and directing those with a low water cut to the dry train.Implementing cyclic operations of the trains between wet and dry to prevent stagnation and the need for mothballing.Monitoring all critical parameters and maintaining export crude specifications. The dynamic selection of wells based on water cut is a novel and innovative approach to optimize the performance of the Central Degassing Station. It not only ensures the quality of the export crude, but also enhances the efficiency and reliability of the equipment and reduces the environmental impact. The following are the annual benefits achieved by this dynamic selection: Optimizing the operation of the feed pump (not required during dry mode of operation)3808 Metric tons of Co2 reduction4000BWPD of freshwater conservation1MM$ Opex reduction. These advantages highlight the significance of using data-driven and agile approaches to solve intricate operational problems. Choosing wells dynamically is a superior method that can adopt and expand to other GOSP plants, reflecting the firm's dedication to outstanding and sustainable practices in oil and gas production.
