Smart Fracturing System for Screenless Sand Control Strategy in Cemented Monobore Completions
Abstract Traditional fracpack designs generally involve setting up multi-zone downhole screen assemblies with isolation packers and pumping proppant slurry until screenout occurs. In contrast, the screenless fracpack using Smart Fracturing Systems avoids the need for costly wellbore cleanup operations, perforation, packer fluid, screens and packer assemblies, and proppant reversing procedures. Instead, communication with the reservoir is facilitated through frac sleeves and dissolvable darts for localized stimulation, which ensures uniform fracture propagation and sand placement in each stage. The reservoir is treated with Resin Coated Proppant (RCP) in a solid free carrier fluid, employing an underflush strategy to prevent nearwellbore collapse and proppant flowback during production. This innovative approach aims to reduce well construction costs while offering full-bore access throughout the entire wellbore. Production results demonstrated good productivity and effective sand control, with no proppant flowback at the surface.
