Multi-beam Depth Coverage Modeling and Solution Based on Geometric Relationships

In recent years, precise measurements have become increasingly important in various fields. Multibeam bathymetry, known for its wide coverage, high data accuracy, and efficiency, has been widely adopted in scientific research and engineering projects. However, its precision and efficiency are influenced by depth, slope, and survey line direction. Thus, optimizing survey line coverage and overlap is a pressing issue. This study establishes a mathematical model to explore the coverage width and overlap rate of multibeam bathymetry under different depth conditions. Using geometric relationships and trigonometric functions, the model relates measurement range to depth and slope, and its effectiveness is validated with actual survey data. The study proposes optimized survey routes, providing theoretical support and technical guidance for practical measurement work.
