The non-destructive control of mechanical properties of ceramics on the silicon nitride and silicon carbide based by acoustic emission method
The acoustic emission (AE) in reaction bonded SiC and Si3N4 ceramics and hot pressed Si3N4+TiN composites were investigated during the bending tests. A clear correlation between some AE parameters and specimen strength was established for all materials. Two methods for non-destructive control of materials strength have been proposed. High accuracy of control (error not more than 3%) in comparison with traditional estimation by sample average (error of 15% and higher) was observed.
