IMPACTOS DA TOXOPLASMOSE GESTACIONAL: UMA REVISÃO NARRATIVA DE LITERATURA
Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii. If the fetus is infected, the complications can be serious and include neurological problems, such as mental retardation, deafness, eye inflammation (choroidoretinitis) and, in severe cases, even spontaneous abortion. Most infected pregnant women do not present symptoms, but specific blood tests can detect the infection. This study constitutes a bibliographic research, configured as a narrative review of the literature related to the impacts of gestational toxoplasmosis. The selection of articles for this study identified 7,842 publications, of which 10 were included in the review. The studies analyzed cover different methodological designs, providing a broad and diversified view of gestational toxoplasmosis, addressing everything from its prevalence to the perceptions of pregnant women, as well as the challenges related to the prevention and control of the disease. It is therefore concluded that gestational toxoplasmosis represents an infectious condition of great relevance to public health, especially due to the impact it can have on fetal development.
