Incidence and measure of association of anatomo-histological alterations of male reproductive system in alpacas slaughtered in the local slaughter house-Nuñoa

The objective of this study was to determine the incidence and measures of association of anatomical and histological alterations of the testis and epididymis in alpacas. For this purpose, 85 positive samples were analyzed using the kerosene embedding method and hematoxylin and eosin staining. The study was carried out in the pathology laboratory of the Puno region. The results indicated an overall incidence of anatomical and histological alterations of 42.50%. In terms of age, the incidence rate was 28.50% for adult alpacas and 14% for young alpacas. Among the breeds, the Huacaya had an incidence rate of 27.50%, while the Suri had an incidence rate of 15%. The main pathological alterations observed were hypoplasia (42.35%), hemorrhagic cyst (36.47%) and cystic atrophy (21.18%). Measures of association for risk factors for pathological changes identified the following values age (67%, RR=1.06), race (65%, RR=1.14), feeding type (76%, RR=1.15), environment (88%, RR=1.06), barn cleanliness (80%, RR=1.19), navel disinfection (78%, RR=1.34), uncontrolled mating (68%, RR=1.01), sanitary management (74%, RR=1.03) and mixed breeding (67%, RR=1.26). These factors were found to be relevant in their association with the anatomical and histological changes observed, providing important insight into the conditions that may influence the reproductive health of alpacas.
