Determination of the Contact between the Fatha and Injana Formations According to the Resistivity Contrast in Husayba Al-Sharqiya, Western Part of Iraq

The resistivity method was used to investigate the variation of the resistivity values of the sediment sequence to determine the contact between the Fatha and Injana formations in Husaybah Al-Sharqiyah, the Western part of Iraq. Three traverses were carried out in the study area by the Wenner-Schlumberger array. The method's results help to define the subsurface geology and structures down to 110 m in depth. The approximate contact between the Injana and Fatha formations was well detected, where it is depth in the location of section SM1 varies between 21 and 50 m, and in the area of section SM2 is deeper where the depth is changed between 23 and 73 m, and in the location of SM3; the contact appeared clearly at a depth ranging between 20 and 59 m. The resistivity of the zone is considered to represent the deposits of the Fatha Formation less than 4.3Ω.m, which is a relatively low resistivity due to the presence of layers of gypsum, marl, and saltwater in fractures.
