Power quality improvement in three-phase grid tied pv systems with 3-D SVPWM control active power filters
This paper introduces a method for enhancing power quality in a grid-connected photovoltaic system. The approach involves a simulation study of the 3D Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) control technique, applied to a three-phase, four-wire shunt active power filter (SAPF). The present study addresses the challenge of power quality degradation due to nonlinear loads at the consumer end. The proposed system configuration integrates the PV array with a three-phase inverter that works as an active filter, availing added advantages such as the elimination of harmonic currents produced by nonlinear loads, reactive power compensation, and injection of active power generated by the PV array. It uses the d-q theory with the 3D SVPWM control technique in computing harmonic reference current and thus provides a possibility for the active filter to generate effective anti-harmonic currents. The system is modeled and simulated using MATLAB-Sim Power Systems. From the results, it is observed that THD is reduced within the IEEE-519 standards. This work represents an increase in the application of SAPF in PV systems, offering practical solutions for the improvement of power quality at modern electrical grids.
