Assessment of defects and performance in bio-based ceramic composites: a focus on capillary properties and non-destructive evaluation

This study examines the evaluation of defects and performance in bio-based ceramic composites, with a focus on capillary properties and non-destructive testing methods. The primary objective is to assess the effectiveness of composites reinforced with natural materials in terms of capillary absorption behavior and mechanical strength. Capillary tests and internal structure evaluations were conducted to identify potential defects such as cracks and porosities. The results show that incorporating bio-sourced fillers improves crack resistance, leading to enhanced overall performance. This study offers both theoretical contributions, by deepening the understanding of interactions between the matrix and natural fibers, and practical contributions, by providing solutions to develop more sustainable materials for the construction industry. In conclusion, the findings demonstrate that the use of bio-based materials can enhance the durability of composites while reducing their environmental impact. The implications for industry are significant, with potential applications in eco-friendly construction materials. However, further research is needed to optimize the compositions of these composites and explore other non-destructive evaluation techniques.
