Unveiling Benedikt’s syndrome: A rare midbrain stroke presenting with oculomotor nerve palsy
A 34-year-old female presented to the neuro-ophthalmology outpatient department with the primary complaint of ptosis of the right eyelid experienced over the course of 3 days. Clinical evaluation unveiled a right oculomotor nerve palsy, accompanied by compromised motor function in the left upper and lower extremities. Neuroimaging studies subsequently revealed the presence of an acute non-hemorrhagic infarct localized within the right paramedian midbrain region, specifically encompassing the red nucleus and the oculomotor nerve fascicles, a presentation conclusively indicative of Benedikt’s syndrome.
