Low Cost Automatic Egg Sorting System Using Conveyor with Light Sensor

The process of sorting eggs based on their quality is carried out by breeders or sellers still using the manual method, namely making visual observations of the eggs. The observation process is carried out by shining the eggs in a dark place and looking at the contents of the eggs using sunlight or a flashlight. Another way that can be done is to look at the egg from its external condition (shell), namely the condition of the shell, shape, and size, and it can also be sorted by weight. In this study, an automatic egg detection system was designed using a conveyor based on the Arduino Uno micro controller, which can detect egg quality in good and rotten conditions or those still suitable for consumption and unsuitable for consumption. Detection uses the BH1750 series light intensity sensor while the sorting uses two output channels mounted on a conveyor system and regulated by a rod driven by a servo motor. The measurement results from the system that was built average accuracy of the light sensor in reading light intensity is 98.52 %. The light intensity ranges for fresh eggs, slightly runny textured eggs but still suitable for consumption, and rotten eggs were (13.205 – 16.586) lux, (9.294 – 12.38) lux, and (5.872 – 7.630) lux, respectively. The system accuracy of the tool for detecting and sorting eggs automatically is 100%.
