Unpicking influence and conflicts of interest in prescribing
What are the influences on our prescribing? In short, many and varied.UK NHS doctors are often beholden to local policies, ever mindful of cost and effectiveness.Conferences and courses will matter most for many.Colleagues and mentors will have an impact as they share experiences and counsel.Medical journals play a role, not only with the original research that shapes the evidence, but also review, opinion, and clinical practice articles. All of this decision making happens in collaboration with the patient, who will bring their own expertise and experience.
