ANÁLISE ESPACIAL DOS CASOS DE DOENÇA FALCIFORME NA REGIÃO DE SAÚDE METROPOLITANA 1 NO RIO DE JANEIRO, BRASIL
Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a global public health issue characterized by high morbidity and mortality. In Brazil, SCD is prevalent in states with a predominant Black population, such as Rio de Janeiro (RJ). However, the distribution of SCD cases in RJ by race and municipality, as well as the relationship with the healthcare network, remains unknown. Geoprocessing allows for spatial analyses that help in understanding the complexity of health problems and supports decision-making. This study identified the occurrence of SCD cases in the Metropolitan Health Region I (MHR I) based on population data by race, municipalities of residence, and the distribution of health facilities, mapping them through geospatial analysis. SCD case data were obtained from the health department's database of the state of Rio de Janeiro, with estimates based on population and self-declared race per 100,000 inhabitants according to IBGE 2010, and various typologies for health units according to DATASUS. Maps and graphs illustrated the heterogeneous distribution of SCD cases in the state of Rio de Janeiro, showing a direct correlation with the Black population residing in favelas. A network of health facilities at different levels of care exists in these territories. Spatial analysis of SCD case occurrences proved useful as a tool for understanding the distribution of SCD cases in MHR I and supports decision-making.
