Design of High Efficiency Buck Converter Based on GaN
The DC/DC switching power supply is a crucial component of power systems, with a development trend towards miniaturization and high efficiency. Currently, DC/DC switching power supplies predominantly use silicon (Si) devices as switching components. However, the inherent limitations of silicon materials result in significant power losses, leading to low energy conversion efficiency, especially during high-frequency operations. In contrast, gallium nitride (GaN) power devices offer superior performance in high-frequency, high-efficiency switching power supplies due to their lower on-resistance and reduced parasitic capacitance. To address the issues of high loss and poor dynamic response in Si-based DC-DC converters, this paper presents a high-efficiency Buck converter with excellent dynamic performance, leveraging the advantages of GaN power devices. Through meticulous parameter calculation, simulation, and experimental validation, the designed Buck converter achieves a peak efficiency of 95.8% at an operating frequency of 500KHz, fully meeting market demands.
