Metamaterial with Left-Handed Properties for MM-Wave 5G Wireless Networks: Design, Analysis, and Characterizations
Left-handed metamaterials are fabricated metallic structures that have both negative permittivity <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(\boldsymbol{\varepsilon})$</tex> and permeability <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(\boldsymbol{\mu})$</tex>, which results in a negative refractive index (n). As a result of its negative index, it facilitates the reversal of waves. Metamaterial can affect the electric and magnetic characteristics of waves traveling through, therefore uncommon features have been utilized, whereas manufacturing components and antennas can be enhanced. In this study, design and analysis of a unique left-handed metamaterial is demonstrated to show double negative characteristics at a frequency resonance of 28GHz for millimeter waves applications with relative permittivity permeability. The proposed meander line unit cell is etched on a Roger RT5880 substrate followed by several analyses. In addition, the negative refractive index curve of proposed unit cell depicts the bandwidth of (20.3-23.6), (25.3-25.9) GHz and some other bands which provide a good candidate for wireless and mobile 5G applications.
