Numerical Simulation of Particulate Matter Generation Inside Furnace of Municipal Solid Waste Incineration on Benchmark Condition
Municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) processes produce particulate matter that can cause air pollution. Understanding the formation mechanism of particulate matter (PM) inside the furnace, in terms of pollutant generation sources, is crucial for pollution reduction and optimal control. This article proposes a numerical simulation model to analyze PM generation inside the MSWI furnace under benchmark operating conditions, by coupling several software tools. Initially, the MSWI process is analyzed to identify key variables affecting PM generation. Subsequently, a numerical simulation model of PM generation in the incinerator, integrating FLIC and FLUENT software, is developed. The flow field distribution and PM concentration under benchmark conditions are then analyzed. The effectiveness of this method is validated using actual data from an MSWI plant in Beijing, providing practical insights for reducing PM concentrations through process improvements and optimal control.
