Bandwidth Enhancement using Artificial Magnetic Conductor in Reconfigurable 6G Antenna

This paper presents a reconfigurable U-shaped slot patch antenna integrated with a metamaterial structure composed of an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC). The AMC structure, consisting of windmill-shaped slot unit cells, is strategically positioned between two substrates to enhance the antenna's performance. To reconfigure the radiation pattern at the potential sixth generation (6G) frequency band of 11 GHz, RF MEMS switches are employed. The integration of the AMC structure into the antenna design demonstrates significant improvements, achieving better reflection coefficients (S<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">11</inf>) and a wider bandwidth. The measured S<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">11</inf> indicates that the antenna attains its widest bandwidth and highest gain, measuring 342 MHz and 7.6 dB respectively, when both switches are activated.
