A Research Contour on the History of Science in Korea, 2022-2023

This article analyses a research contour on the history of science in Korea during recent two years. In short, history of western science is weak, history of science in pre-modern Korea maintains existence, and history of science in modern and contemporary Korea is quite popular. In the history of western science, institutional and cultural context of scientific practices is valued, and writing a global history of science is earnestly tried. History of science in premodern Korea continuously focuses on the astronomy and almanac, and other themes such as metal type and traditional paper are approached from a novel viewpoint. History of science in modern and contemporary Korea actively dig up recent stories and proceeds to history of East Asian science based on the cooperation with foreign scholars. Also the history of environment, health, and safety related to quality of life rises to prominence and history of science should provide a differentiated narratives compared to neighboring fields.
