The Effects Of Vitamin D On Rabbit Ovarian Function And Reproductive Efficiency

Vitamin D is an important nutrient for reproductive health in humans and animals. However, its role in rabbit reproduction needs to be better understood. To investigate the impact of vitamin D supplementation on reproductive performance in New Zealand White.Ninety doses were randomly assigned to control (A1) and treatment (A2).A2 receives a 50 mg intramuscular vitamin D injection after 10 days of costume. The study was approved by the Standing Committee for Scientific Research -Jazan University and was carried on from March 2022 to June 2023.Reproductive performance was assessed by measuring litter size at delivery and weaning, gestational age, pre-weaning mortality rate, plasma vitamin D and progesterone concentrations, ovulation rate, number of retrieved embryos, cleavage stage, embryo quality, and in vitro embryo development.Vitamin D supplementation increased plasma vitamin D concentrations by 3.1 to 3.7 times during pregnancy. It also reduced the pre-weaning mortality rate and enhanced daily development during the nursing period. The number of retrieved embryos at 48 hours post-coitum was almost twice as high in A2 as in A1.A2 also had higher-quality embryos (48 hours after coitus and 96 hours after collection) and larger litter sizes at delivery and weaning.Vitamin D supplementation improves reproductive performance in New Zealand White.
