FARADAY EFFECT IN THREE-PERIODIC PHOTONIC CRYSTALS
The Faraday effect in one-dimensional three-periodic magnetic photonic crystals (PCs) based on SiO2, TiO2 dielectrics and Y3Fe5O12 (YIG) and Bi:YIG ferrite garnets is theoretically investigated. The transmission spectra of near-IR electromagnetic waves (EMW) passing through the PCs magnetized perpendicular to the layers (polar magneto-optical configuration) within the first photonic band gap (PBG) are calculated. It is shown that at a telecommunication wavelength of 1.55 μm, for certain PC parameters and EMW incidence angles, the Faraday rotation (FR) angles can reach tens of degrees at sufficiently high transmission coefficients, which can be promising for the application of these structures in various photonic devices.
