A Raspberry Pi 4 and Arduino-based Automated Intercom Door Lock System

This work aims at building a working model for a complete intercom door lock system using Arduino and Raspberry Pi. The goal has been to unite the best of Raspberry Pi and Arduino in a single application. While the microcontroller on the Arduino is quite simple and runs just one program at the maximum speed capacity, the microprocessor utilised in Raspberry Pi is used in computers and phones and on which we usually install an operating system to run a variety of programs to perform different tasks. Arduino is better suited for controlling the hardware components. On the other hand, the Raspberry Pi is better suited for software applications that demand more processing power. Certain hardware functionalities can only be implemented using the Arduino because although the GPIO panel on the Raspberry Pi is great, it is pretty limited compared to the Arduino pins. The link between Raspberry Pi and Arduino is set up via serial communication. Components such as RGB LED, buzzer, push button, LCD, and motor, are attached to the Arduino board. The Raspberry Pi runs a Python script to receive requests to open the door and directs the captured images to the owner to receive further instructions. The corresponding course of action is followed according to the option chosen by the owner.
