Vehicle Speed Guidance Strategy at Signalized Intersections Considering Communication Delay under the Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Cooperation System

Speed guidance can improve intersection efficiency. However, the current intersection speed guidance model does not consider communication delays between vehicles. First, this paper determines the recommended operating speed by analyzing the signal timing, the information of the vehicle in front, and the operational status of the target vehicle. Second, based on the communication delay scenario, a Smith Predictor under Fuzzy Control is proposed to compensate for the communication delay in speed guidance. Finally, to verify the effectiveness of this control method, simulations are conducted to compare the effects with/without compensation. The results demonstrate that the Smith Predictor control model is capable of competently reducing car-following error and improving efficiency in intersection passing.
