Linguistic Specificity of Urban Signs in Chisinau
This article studies the degree to which, in the public space of the city of Chisinau, the orthographic, punctuation and grammar rules, the spirit of the translation, the stylistic specificity are respected. All this in the context in which, with the introduction of the concept of “linguistic landscape” into the circuit, is more and more valued the language of public signs: of billboards, commercial names, street names, advertising leaflets belonging to private traders etc. Such a perspective allows for a better understanding of how norm and usage interrelate, how the standards of literary language are respected in the public space, especially in an area where there is a linguistic diversity and interference.
