Emerging Practices in A11y Communication Design: Building Accessible Programs through Accessible Design
This experience report explores the integration of accessibility principles within the Experience Architecture (XA) Program at Michigan State University (MSU). By emphasizing the importance of preparing students to center accessibility in their practices, this report underscores the necessity of equipping future writers and designers with the skills and ethical frameworks necessary for navigating an increasingly digital landscape. Through an Experimental Experiential Learning Experience (EELE), the XA Capstone, students engage in critical exploration of the intersection between emerging technologies and accessibility, fostering a commitment to inclusivity and advocacy within their professional endeavors. Through community engagement, internships, and research projects, students are then empowered to leverage new technologies to advance accessibility, contributing to a more inclusive digital future.
