CONTRIBUIÇÕES DA ARQUITETURA INCLUSIVA PARA PESSOAS COM TRANSTORNO DO ESPECTRO AUTISTA

This study aims to reflect on the exclusion of autistic people in the context of accessibility in architectural projects, identifying this exclusion as the central problem of the research. Adopting an exploratory and bibliographical approach, the research is developed from a literature review that includes books, scientific articles, periodicals and theses available in reliable databases, such as PubMed, Scielo and Google Scholar. The keywords used in the searches were “autism”, “architecture”, “inclusive design” and “sensory-friendly design”. The literature review revealed several important aspects to be considered in the design of inclusive environments for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These aspects include the need for a sensory design that considers responses to stimuli such as light, sound and textures, common in people with ASD. Designs that do not meet these needs can exacerbate the discomfort and exclusion of these people. In conclusion, autistic-inclusive architecture should not be seen as a specialized niche, but as an integrated approach that aims to improve the quality of life for all users, whether in public or private spaces. By adopting universal design principles and valuing diversity, architects have the opportunity to create environments that are not only functional, but also welcoming and empathetic, promoting a more inclusive experience for all.
