A IMPORTÂNCIA DA CIRURGIA ORTOGNÁTICA NA SÍNDROME DA APNÉIA OBSTRUTIVA DO SONO

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is a respiratory disorder that significantly impacts individuals' quality of life, increasing the risk of various health conditions, including cardiovascular diseases and psychological issues. This study reviews the effectiveness of orthognathic surgery as a therapeutic intervention for OSAS, highlighting its ability to improve the functionality of the upper airways and reduce apnea episodes. Literature analysis reveals that patients with dentofacial deformities, such as retrognathia and maxillary hypoplasia, show significant improvements post-surgery. A multidisciplinary approach, involving collaboration between dentistry and sleep medicine, is essential to optimize treatment outcomes. The study concludes that orthognathic surgery should be considered a valuable option in the management of OSAS, with a need for further research to enhance clinical practices and promote restorative sleep.
